How One Artist Uses Abstract Painting to Express His Emotions and Advocate for Mental Health - Michael Norsk

As an abstract expressionist working predominantly with acrylics on canvas, Michael Norsk tends to steer away from imposing the limitations of traditional elements within his work. Instead, he accents the use of layering, texture, contrast and value. Each of his abstract expressionism paintings begin with an emotional foundation tied to a momentary experience. For Michael, painting is therapeutic and provides a creative and productive outlet from an often busy and distracted world. Mental health is a vital part of Michael's wellbeing. For him, the painting process is therapeutic and calming. His collections, and individual pieces, represent a window into the layers of the journey along his path on the mental health continuum.

His work has been hosted by Idaho Art Gallery, Meridian, Idaho and in the Boise Weekly Art Auction or is available on his Website

The Power of Practice: Tom Callos' Transformation from Martial Artist to Visual Artist

Following a professional career in martial arts (and several broken bones), Tom Callos is pursuing a quieter calling in relief print making. He found mastery of martial arts through repetition and seeks to do the same in his printmaking so he set out to create 1,000 portraits, believing a martial arts adage that until you’ve done something 1,000 times you haven’t really tried to learn it. Tom likes to focus his work on people who he considers to be upstanders and has recently worked on a series called People of Boise, where he features local upstanders. I hope you enjoy my interview with Printmaker Tom Callos.

His website is http://www.tomcallos.com.

He showcases his work at https://www.instagram.com/tomcallos nearly daily!
